In 2024, Figma released a digital report exploring how design is driving the future of business across the APAC region. In addition to designing the report itself, we were tasked with developing a variety of digital assets to drive traffic to the report and share Figma’s incredible impact on the design industry in the APAC region.

The challenge
We were tasked with the challenge of designing the digital report, the landing page where the report will be hosted, a variety of eDM assets as well as a series of animated videos that would be used across Figma's social channels to promote the report. Many of these assets would be replicated so the client could specifically target their audiences in particular regions. Working against a tight deadline, we were faced with a number of obstacles that required strong adaptability and problem solving to overcome.

The PROCESS
Before diving into the design, we researched extensively on the importance of mangroves to the Papuan ecosystem and how mangrove deforestation has detrimental impacts on both the environment as well as the community at large. We also looked at other initiatives in Papua New Guinea that similarly focus on environmental conservation and education to examine the visual language they used to connect with their local community.
The team organised an onsite assessment of the resort to talk to the owners of the business and gain a sense of what services are offered to guests, the demographic of the visitors and their ideas for the future of Koke Hanua.
We explored local museums, art galleries and architecture, providing ample inspiration on how we might incorporate elements of local Papuan art into the design and visual direction of this project.

Despite the time restraints, it was important that we took the time to carefully understand the brand so we can maintain consistency across all our deliverables and ensure the client is focused on providing feedback on the concept and execution.
After the team had developed the look and feel for the report itself, we replicated the style across the various supporting assets. For the animated assets in particular, we looked for inspiration online across various social media platforms. This process gave us ideas on how to simply, yet effectively communicate our message in a style reminiscent of Figma's playful branding.

After many iterations, we were able to successfully deliver a fun and engaging campaign that shares the incredible statistics on how the design industry is growing in the APAC region.

After numerous sketches and typographic explorations, we developed our final design. We embraced the imperfect and chose to visualise our logo with a paper-cut illustration style. This style gave the design an abstracted and hand-generated feel, reflecting the art style of Papuan art. Each letter of the logo represents a different goal of Koke Hanua and combine to tell the story of how they hope their exhibition will empower the community with knowledge that will bring incremental change to the environment.
